PLuTO – Patent Language Translations Online – is a European project which aims to provide an integrated, online translation tool, where several human experts (technical, legal, consultants) can take advantage of existing web-content and state-of-the-art data-driven machine translation and information retrieval tools to collaboratively retrieve and translate patents.
Goals:
1) Development of a rapid solution for online retrieval and translation of patents by integrating a number of existing state-of-the-art software components
2) Commoditization of domain-focused machine translations, making it more accessible to individual inventors and SMEs who do not have the resources to contract patent lawyers, searchers and translators
3) Deployment of a professional Web 2.0 application where patent searchers, lawyers, translators and others involved in the prior art search, can collaborate on a particular task, sharing search results and translations in order to achieve an optimal solution.
ESTeam contributes a comprehensive translation software environment to the project, including its server-based, multi-layered, multi-domain translation memory technology.
